Xiaomi Redmi - New hunter in the woods

So i was waiting for this phone to come to flipkart like hell. I was ready with my registration done and on 2nd September 2014 at 2pm i hit the Book Now button on flipkart.com only to find myself in joy. I got a chance to buy this new and exotic smartphone from China which has already caught attentions of millions in India. With the advent of Mi3 in the Indian market, Xiaomi has successfully sold out all their products and has dried out their stocks on flipkart.

I got to know about Xiaomi from my friend. He was hell bent on buying Xiaomi Mi3 which he claimed to be the best smartphone in the midrange of Rs 10-20k. I had just gifted a Motorola Moto G to my baby brother so a new smartphone in the same price range outperfoming my selection was a bit humiliating. Plus the China tag was not at all adding glories to it. I just smiled at my friend and hoped for his phone to burn in hell.

Then came the day he successfully bought one and i was left jaw dropped. The smartphone was a masterpiece. Looks was impressive and the specification was mind bogling.

So i made up my mind to gift one to my mum. the next day i found out over internet that Xiaomi has announced a cheaper set Redmi which will compete in the below 10k range and so i was all set to buy this one for sure. Henceforth rest all is history.

I was lucky enough to gift Xiaomi Redmi to my mum and she was all smiles to own it.

The phone in the very first impression looks smooth and a bit heavy. It has a 2000 mA h battery which is removable, unlike the Mi3 variant. That came to me as a relief. The box contained a battery, USB charger and adapter and free screen guards from flipkart (3 in nos), this came to me as a surprise. Flipkart also provided a microsim card tray. Unlike Mi3, Redmi is a dual sim phone which is what i wanted. Normal mobile sims are needed, no need of micro sim (definitely a plus).

The MIUI looks extravagant, as hyped and expected. The camera quality was not as expected but how much can you expect at a price tag of Rs 5999!!!

The rest of the specifications which steals the show are:

  • 1.6 GHz MSM8228 Quad Core Processor

  • 4.7-inch Touchscreen

  • AGC Dragontrail Scratch Resistant Glass

  • 8 MP Primary Camera

  • Dual SIM (3G + 2G)

  • Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS

  • Expandable Storage Capacity of 64 GB

  • 1.6 MP Secondary Camera

I love the way Xiaomi has entered the Indian market with a thong. All these specifications at just Rs 5999! Incredible yet tempting. The performance of the phone is buttery. Xiaomi is now the most anticipated smartphone in Indian Market.

Jealous, Samsung????

P.S.- Go buy Xiaomi Redmi, its definitely worth the rush.
