Viruses helped Evolution- Retroviruses

Life evolved as single cells deep in the oceans, as we know it. Billions of years ago some chemicals came together to establish a metabolism which we call as Life. But the journey from simple living cells to the complex organisms of today just didn't happen overnight nor did it happen without any external help.

The one question which keeps on bugging scientists is the major reason which made cells to divide and create more complex structures? What was the driving force which made cells to take a step forward on the path of evolution and what was the external help, if any, which became the harbinger of genetic diversity on our planet.

Today there are millions of species on Earth and every one of them, big or small, has a common scaffolding of codes, the DNA, which make them who they are. Every living organism has their own DNA in their Chromosomes, and then there are Viruses which are nothing but, in technical terms, a living code. A virus is just a set of codes which happened to attach itself on one of the primitive single cells and took them forward to make life on our planet to flourish.

But how can they do it? Are all viruses lethal or are there some viruses which are credited to begin the ecosystem on our planet?

Let's find out.
