Operation Blue Star: India

Operation Blue Star is one of the most controversial operations ever executed by the Indian Government. The rising turbulence in the North India forced the then Indian Government to order a raid, under General Brar, on the holiest land of the Sikh community, The Golden Temple at Amritsar, Punjab.

The one decision which took lives of many, including Indira Gandhi herself, is definitely a black spot in the history of India after independence. Since the Golden Temple is the symbol of Sikhism and an attack on it hurt the sentiment of all the Sikhs across the world.

Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was the centre of the story and was wanted to be brought down by the Government because of his rising influence on the Sikh followers which seemed detrimental to the National Security. A fleet of army and tanks hurled into the Temple amid curfew did change the history of Sikhs in India.
