Neanderthals- Europe's First People

Today's modern humans have made Europe their home but a suprising fact states that thousands of years ago, our ancestors weren't the first to reach out here. It was a home to our very close genetic cousins, the Homo Neanderthalensis.

They reached Europe much before our ancestors left Africa and made it their home. The cold climate and snowy environ made them to evolve differently into a separate species. Thousands of years later our ancestors moved out of Africa and the Neanderthals moved south to seek refuge from the biting cold. In this historic migration, they were destined to face one another.

It would have been a horrifying sight for the modern humans, the Homo Sapiens, to encounter something which looked just like them. Many theories suggests the outcomes of the encounter, some being that we wiped out the neanderthals and others suggest an interbreeding between both the species.
