Mystery about Different Types of Dinosaurs
As common people we live in a mirage that dinosaurs can be divided into various different races, some of which were herbivore while some were carnivores. However, it seems that the classification of Dinosaurs is a bit too simple to understand. There were basically two types of dinosaurs:
1. Saurischia (lizard hipped)
2. Ornithischia (bird hipped)
Saurischia :
This type can be further divided into various subgroups based on families of dinosaurs but we will basically focus on the most common Dinosaur types in this category:
a) Theropods: Theropod means "beast foot". This type of Dinosaurs used to walk on two legs and were basically carnivorous (meat eating). The greatest irony is that Birds evolved from Theropods and not from Ornithischia (bird hipped) Dinosaurs. Most of the scary dinosaurs we know today belong to this family.
b) Sauropods: These dinosaurs evolved to walk in four legs and grew to enormous sizes. They were herbivores (plant eaters) and were very stupid as compared to other dinosaur types.
Ornithischia:
These Dinosaurs are also known as the bird hipped dinosaurs. They are also further divided into various sub categories. Let's take a look at some:
a) Thyreophora: These dinosaurs are "shield bearers". Their body is covered with thick armours to help protect it from being attacked by the carnivorous dinosaurs. They were herbivores that lived from the early Jurassic Period to the late Cretaceous.
b) Cerapods: These dinosaurs were horned animals. Some of these dinosaurs developed leathal or strange horns which they used during combat for competing to mate or to protect itself from other flesh eating monster dinosaurs.
