How to keep your Kidneys safe?

How to keep your Kidneys safe?

The Kidneys are a pair of organs which are located at the back of our abdomen. Each kidney is about 4-5 inches long i.e. about the size of your fist.

The major function of the kidneys are to filter the blood from all the toxic wastes. All the blood in our body passes through kidney for purification, several times in a day. The kidneys remove wastes, control the body's fluid balance, and regulate the balance of electrolytes. As the kidneys filter blood, they create urine, which collects in the kidneys' pelvis -- funnel-shaped structures that drain down tubes called ureters to the bladder.

So that accomplishes the fact that the kidneys are really important to you and that you should take care of them to live a happy and healthy life.

Here are some ways which can help you to keep the kidneys heathy:

1. Always try to keep your blood pressure levels within the normal range.

2. If you are diabetic then always try to keep your glucose level in normal range. Diabetes is one of the major reasons for kidney problems.

3. Try to keep your cholestrol levels in the target zone.

4. Take medicines the way your Doctor advices you to. (Important! Certain blood pressure medicines called ACE inhibitors and ARBs may protect your kidneys. Ask your health care provider for more information.)

5. Reduce your consumption of salt. This is a very important precaution in your diet. Consumption of lower levels of salt will also help you in maintaining your blood pressure.

6. Kidney's health is directly related to your Heart's health. So try eating healthy food that are good for your heart- fresh fruits, fresh or frozen vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods.

7. Cut down on your alcohol intake.

8. Increase your daily physical activities.

9. If you are overweight then try to reduce your weight.

10. Cigarette smoking makes kidney conditions worse so take gradual steps to limit or stop smoking.
